T-Mobile Will Offer LG's G-Slate Tablet for $529.99

LG's G-Slate tablet and G2x smartphone will be offered by T-Mobile even as it's acquired by AT&T. Both the G-Slate and the T-Mobile G2x use Nvidia's Tegra 2 dual-core chip for "unmatched speed and power." LG's G-Slate is powered by Android 3.0 and features 3D with glasses. The Android-powered T-Mobile G2x features advanced gaming.

T-Mobile plans to introduce LG Electronics' new Android-based G-Slate tablet Relevant Products/Services at an after-rebate price of $529.99 with a two-year service contract. The wireless operator, which is being acquired by AT&T, also unveiled the T-Mobile G2x -- a new 4G smartphone Relevant Products/Services from LG that features advanced gaming capabilities.

Expected to launch in the weeks ahead, both devices integrate Nvidia's Tegra 2 chip with dual one-gigahertz cores. The goal is to enable web browsers and games to run smoother and faster in comparison with devices equipped with single-core processors running at the same speed, noted LG Mobile Phones Vice President Tim O'Brien.

"The move into dual-core technology is the next big leap forward in mobile technology, creating a new superphone segment," O'Brien said Monday. "These superpowered processors will allow both developers and users to utilize the unmatched speed and power Relevant Products/Services in multitasking, multimedia and functionality never before realized in a mobile handset."

3D With Glasses

Unveiled last January at the Consumer Electronics Show, the 4G-capable G-Slate sports a 8.9-inch high-definition screen, a Wi-Fi radio, 32GB of internal memory, and an HDMI port. Also on tap are dual rear-facing five-megapixel cameras for snapping photos, shooting 3D videos, and recording HD video Relevant Products/Services clips. A front-facing camera is dedicated to video chat.

The G-Slate's gaming enhancements include a built-in gyroscope, accelerometer and adaptive lighting. In addition, the G-Slate will be among the first tablets to feature 3D graphics. Unlike LG's new 3D-capable Thrill 4G smartphone for AT&T, however, the G-Slate will require users to wear 3D glasses.

The T-Mobile G-Slate is powered by Android 3.0, Honeycomb, which Google designed for tablet devices with larger screens. The platform with Adobe Flash-compatible Chrome browser also will feature Google mobile offerings such as Google Maps 5.0 with 3D interaction, tablet-optimized G-mail, YouTube and Google Books.

Premium Gaming Experience

Featuring a built-in accelerometer and gyro sensor, the T-Mobile G2x is designed to deliver a premium gaming experience enhanced by the latest DTS Ultra Mobile technology for generating a digital surround-sound experience and Bluetooth-enabled stereo headset capability. Even better, the handset can mirror live games on HDMI-compatible HDTV sets or even wirelessly stream games and other video content to devices compatible with the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) standard.

Shipping with pre-loaded gaming content, the new handset also incorporates Nvidia's Tegra Zone application, which makes it easy for handset users to find the latest games that have been optimized to exploit the full potential of the Tegra 2 mobile processor. And on the multimedia front, the G2x provides access Relevant Products/Services to live and on-demand TV programs, including full episodes of popular TV series.

With a four-inch touchscreen, the T-Mobile G2x includes 8GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot that offers support for a maximum of 32GB of expandable memory. Two cameras are also on tap: an eight-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and autofocus, and a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video chat.
