With Firefox 4 and Opera, It's Raining Browsers


Firefox 4 was recently unleashed, boasting many new features including the promise of dramatic speed and performance advancements across the board. In addition, Opera Mini 6 (for J2ME, Android, BlackBerry and Symbian/S60 phones) and Opera Mobile 11 (for Android, Symbian, Windows 7 desktop, MeeGo and Maemo) also came out for handheld devices.

A slew of new (free, of course) Web browsers have come out recently, highlighted by [the] launch of Firefox 4 for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The developers at Mozilla included many new features, but the biggest draw for users will likely be the promise of faster performance:

"With dramatic speed and performance advancements across the board, Firefox is between two and six times faster than previous releases. Major enhancements to the JavaScript engine make everything from startup time to page load speed to graphics and JavaScript performance screaming fast in Firefox."

In addition, Opera Mini 6 and Opera Mobile 11 also came out Tuesday for handheld devices.

Opera Mini 6 browser is available for J2ME, Android, BlackBerry and Symbian/S60 phones.

Meanwhile, Opera Mobile 11 is for Android, Symbian, Windows 7 desktop Relevant Products/Services (labs release), MeeGo (labs release) and Maemo (labs release) platforms.

Just point the browser on your phone to m.opera.com to get the new hotness.

And last but not least, Microsoft Relevant Products/Services about a week ago pushed out Internet Explorer 9. However, that browser is only available for Windows Vista and 7. If you're still rocking an XP machine, no soup for you.
